Phil Williams – Webcor Builders, Inc.

Conference Moderator

Phillip Micheal Williams, PE, and LEED AP, is Webcor's Vice President of Systems Engineering and Sustainable Design.  His career focus has been in the California marketplace with extensive experience in the design, application, sales, installation and service of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, data and related systems.  Most recently he served as the Chairman of the San Francisco Mayor's Task Force on Green Buildings which focused on recommendations for private sector green building requirements. These aggressive standards; planned for implementation in 2008, cover virtually all private sector commercial and residential building types with phased escalations to enable industry implementation. In addition he serves on the Advisory for the Business Council on Climate Change (BC3), the San Francisco Building Code Advisory Committee (including Code Advisory Green Building Subcommittee), Chair of the Industry Advisory Board for the Center for the Built Environment (CBE) and California’s Green Technologies Advisory Board.

Stephany Cull – RetroCom Energy Strategies, Inc.

Ms. Cull is the Co-founder & CEO of RetroCom Energy Strategies Inc., an independent consulting firm focused on Existing Building Commissioning (Retrocommissioning), Green Building Services and Energy Engineering. Ms. Cull has extensive experience in facility maintenance & operations and energy conservation, in both public and private sector buildings, and she developed her company’s Support RetroCommissioningSM offering. Her experience and knowledge of Existing Building Commissioning led to her selection as the submitting author of the Retrocommissioning section in the Encyclopedia of Energy Engineering & Technology published by Taylor & Francis. Ms. Cull is currently the Energy Subcommittee Chair of the BOMA San Francisco Environment Committee and a member of the BOMA California Energy Committee.

Hank Koning is a founding Principal of Koning Eizenberg Architecture, established in Santa Monica in 1981. Under his and partner Julie Eizenberg’s lead, the firm has earned more than 60 awards for their projects. In 1992, he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects and in 1995, became a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. Ted Reiff – The ReUse People of America, Inc.

Ted Reiff is founder and president of The ReUse People of America, Inc. (TRP), an environmental organization that salvages used building materials and markets them in California, Colorado, Illinois, Kansas and Mexico. TRP is a leader in the emerging field of deconstruction, which, unlike traditional demolition, involves the careful dismantling of buildings in order to preserve their reusable components. Michael Lehrer – Lehrer Architects LA

"Case Study of The Water + Life Museums in Hemet, California"

Michael B. Lehrer, FAIA founded his practice, LEHRER ARCHITECTS LA, in Los Angeles in 1985. His work, from the intimate to the monumental, is grounded in the idea that beauty is a rudiment of human dignity. He reveres light and space as the spiritual essence of architecture.  Lehrer Architects LA has won over 40 design awards since 1996, including honor awards from the national, state, and local chapters of The American Institute of Architects. 

 

Mr. Lehrer has been an adjunct member of the faculty at the University of Southern California since 1986, teaching all levels of design studio from 1st Year through Masters Thesis. He regularly sits on academic and professional AIA design juries around the country. Licensed in California in 1981, Michael was educated at Berkeley and Harvard after attending LAUSD public schools.

 

Mr. Lehrer recently completed the Museum of Water + Life under a joint venture partnership, Lehrer + Gangi Design + Build.  The project has been certified by the U. S. Green Building Council as the first LEED™ Platinum museum in the world. The $35 Million Phase I project, including buildings and landscape, is an energy efficiency showcase, featuring a 550 kilowatt photovoltaic rooftop installation. The Museums have won the Beyond Green™ 2007 High Performance Building Award from the Sustainable Building Industry Council, the Gold Nugget Award for the Best Sustainable Commercial Building, and Honor Awards from AIA Los Angeles and the AIA Pasadena Foothill Chapters. Metropolitan Home magazine has included it among its "Design 100 best designs in the world" for 2008.

Mark Gangi – Gangi Architects

Mark Gangi formed Gangi Architects in 1990 as a division of Gangi Builders Inc., a 50-year-old family run construction and development firm spanning three generations of Southern California builders. Mark is simultaneously an Architect, a builder, a developer, an educator, a researcher, and a leader in the profession. Architecture is reality intervention, transforming the human experience with architecture as a sensory and choreographic device – and the architect who leads is the one who understands the entire process. 

 

Mr. Gangi is an adjunct member of the faculty at the University of Southern California, where he was also educated. He was licensed as an architect in California in 1997 and is the 2009 President Elect of the AIA Pasadena Foothills chapter.
